In 1885, Emile Giffard was named as a dispensing pharmacist in Angers (Val de Loire) in France. His mind didn’t stop there. Mr Giffard undertook research on the digestive and refreshing properties of mint. As a result, he came up with a refined white mint beverage. His test market happened to be the Grand Hotel’s customers, in order to relieve them from heat, and immediate success ensued. With this, Emile changed his pharmacy into a distillery and called his beverage Menthe Pastille, referring to the mint sweets which were very famous at that time.
Four generations later, Giffard is a name with which everyone is familiar. It is now a famous brand of beverages and syrups. Giffard products have been in the market for over 100 years, and are still to this day consistently evolving their expressions to fit with the modern times.
Research & Development
Giffard has laboratory that continuously work on the Research & Development . In order to be able to anticipate, innovate, improve, test and taste, the whole Giffard R&D team works all the year round.
Since, the natural products live and evolve with time; there is a need for constant improvements to the manufacturing processes of beverages.
Giffard has been in this business for over 100 years and has built a huge knowledge base for these products. The basic ingredients of Giffard products are fruits and plants, which offer a pledge of quality. Those fruits and plants are bought primarily in France (100 % of blackcurrant berries are grown in the Pays de Loire) or come from further afield, depending on the desired varieties.
